The Belgian Fusion Day, now in its third edition*, is a joint event organised by the fusion research laboratories at Royal Military Academy, the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre SCK-CEN, Universiteit Gent, KU Leuven, Université libre de Bruxelles and Université Catholique de Louvain. It aims to showcase to a broad audience the current state of Fusion Energy development and the involvement of Belgium in the pursuit of this abundant and carbon-free energy source of the future.
As in previous years, a large portion of the meeting’s agenda is geared towards bachelor and master students in sciences or engineering, giving them a chance to learn the basics of fusion research and get informed about teaching/PhD programs or job opportunities.
The event is divided into two main parts:
1 ) During the morning session, we’ll first discuss the important historical milestones reached in fusion research and the challenges that lie ahead. The second part of the session will be devoted to the Belgian involvement in current research programs and the contribution of Belgian industries. The two Keynote talks scheduled will be complemented by lively panel discussions from prominent experts.
2) In the afternoon, the program consists of scientific talks delivered by PhD researchers or young postdocs from Belgian universities and institutes active in the Eurofusion consortium.
The Belgian Fusion Day will be held on October 18th 2024, at KBR in Brussels.
Attendance is free, including lunch and coffee breaks, but registration in mandatory. The number of participants is limited to 100 persons and in case of overbooking, priority will be given to bachelor and master students.
